Day 107: Toronto International Film Festival

by Thomas Cook on September 3, 2010

The Toronto International Film Festival is taking over some of the city’s most notable theaters and movie houses from September 9th to 19th with over 300 films on 29 screens to choose from. Fans can also line the red carpet in hopes of seeing their favourite stars and filmmakers before films begin.

Attend the country's largest film festival in Toronto next week.

The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) is a non-profit that was established in 1976. This year marks the opening of the Bell Lightbox, a five-storey permanent home for the celebration of cinema in Toronto.

This year’s TIFF is also holding a special Tim Burton exhibit by the Museum of Modern Art, the first of its kind to be displayed in the city with over 700 items highlighting Burton’s distinctive style, including showings of some of his films.

TIFF is second only to the Cannes film festival with regards to size, but described by Roger Ebert as, “just as great”. TIFF is non-competetive, but is considered a good showcase for many Academy Award buzz-worthy films as it is timed just as the Oscar race is set to start.
